Arrest Made In Case Involving Newborn Found Buried Alive Along Compton Riverbed

COMPTON (CBSLA.com) — Deputies say an arrest has been made in the case involving an abandoned newborn found buried in Compton.

The name of the suspect, described as a the baby's mother, was not made public although the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department planned to hold a news conference at 10 a.m. Monday to provide further details.

Deputies credited "multiple leads" with being able to make the arrest.

The baby was found on Nov. 27 buried alive after deputies received a call of a baby crying in the riverbed located between 136th Street and Slater Avenue.

When deputies arrived, they heard the baby's muffled cry and found the infant believed to have been born within the previous 36 to 48 hours buried alive.

The current condition of the baby was not immediately disclosed.
