Man dies from self-inflicted gunshot wound after Tarzana standoff, police say

Possibly armed man barricades for hours from officers in Tarzana

A man who barricaded himself inside a Tarzana apartment died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, ending a standoff that went on for more than 12 hours after police were first called to the scene Thursday morning.

Officers were notified around 10:32 a.m. about a domestic disturbance call in the 5700 block of Etiwanda Ave. in Tarzana. Several hours later, at 5:22 p.m., the Los Angeles Police Department said the suspect was believed to be armed and no one had been injured.

Just before 1 a.m., LAPD said it was only "possible" that the man was armed and he remained barricaded inside the home into the early morning hours Friday. By that time, some residents in the apartment building were evacuated.

At 2:30 a.m., LAPD said the suspect had been pronounced dead at the scene from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

No other details have been released.
