Police Swarm Arleta Neighborhood Following Fatal Officer-Involved Shooting
ARLETA (CBSLA) — There was a large police presence in an Arleta neighborhood Monday evening where two officer-involved shootings — one fatal — happened
At approximately 4 p.m., Los Angeles Police Department officers responded to a report of a family disturbance in the 13100 block of Ottoman Street. Police said when they arrived on scene a man in his 30s was on the porch of the home holding a handgun.
Police said that is when an officer fired shots at the man, who police said then ran around to the back of the home with the handgun where he was fatally shot by a second officer. The man's body was recovered in the back alley of the home.
"We heard about five shots that sounded like firecrackers, and then we ended up hearing another five, seven shots that I thought was like a .22," Linda Turrill, who witnessed the shooting, said.
Views from SKY9 showed what appeared to be a shotgun nearby and a handgun on top of a trash can, but police would not confirm how many guns were recovered from the scene.
Close to a dozen police vehicles could also be seen in the area as police entered a nearby home. Two people were questioned following the shooting, but no arrests have been made.
"We know the dispute was occurring within the residence, at this point," Lt. Chris Ramirez, of the LAPD, said. "We're trying to iron out those details and get all the facts from the people who live in that house."
No officers were injured in the shooting.
