Argument At South LA Gas Station Leads To Bizarre Car Fire

SOUTH LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A quarrel between two men at a gas station in South L.A. allegedly escalated into one of them setting fire to the other's car.

A white car was engulfed in flames early Saturday at the 76 gas station at Vernon Avenue and Figueroa Street, according to the LAPD.

The two men reportedly got into a verbal altercation at the gas pumps. One of them, the driver of the white car, told police he walked away, and that's when the suspect allegedly poured gas on the vehicle and tossed something to set it ablaze.

There were two passengers in the white car who jumped out and fled the scene.

Meanwhile, the gas station attendant spotted the flames and ran to a different location to call 911.

The suspect also left the gas station before emergency responders arrived.

LAPD says they're going to use the station's surveillance video as they continue their investigation.
