Anaheim Joins OC 'Shaming' Movement For Sexual Solicitation Convicts

ANAHEIM (AP/CBSLA.com) — In order to combat prostitution, Anaheim will begin publicly shaming people convicted of soliciting sex from a prostitute.

KNX 1070's Ron Kilgore reports the City Council voted unanimously Tuesday to add the name of anyone convicted to an online list.

The move comes a year after the district attorney's office enacted a policy to post the names on its website and distribute the list to news media, according to The Orange County Register.

Prosecutors with the city of Anaheim - which handles its own misdemeanor prostitution cases - say prostitution in Orange County usually involves human traffickers who force young women and in some cases underage girls to work in the sex trade.

Opponents have said that public shaming could harm the families of those convicted. But Councilwoman Lucille Kring said that men who solicit sex acts put themselves in jeopardy.

It was unclear when Anaheim will enact the new rule.
