Body Of Missing 4-Year-Old Boy Found In Mission Bay

SAN DIEGO (CBSLA.com) — The body of a missing 4-year-old boy was found in San Diego's Mission Bay on Sunday after authorities had issued Amber Alerts throughout Southern California, following a tip that the boy had possibly been abducted.

Wesley Hilaire was last seen alive at 7:44 p.m. Saturday, walking by the water in the area of 2800 E. Mission Bay Dr. in San Diego. The boy's family reported that he was last been at seen  walking with an unfamiliar man. A description of a man was broadcast by police, and an Amber Alert and active search was conducted from the border as far north as Orange and Riverside counties.

However, after the body was recovered, San Diego police Officer Dan Lasher said they no longer believe a kidnapping occurred.

Police now suspect Wesley Hilaire simply drowned during a family outing by the bay.

It was not clear whether an action would be taken against his family, who had told officers the boy had possibly been abducted, triggering the Amber Alert.
