Aliso Viejo Double Homicide Suspect Captured In Inglewood

VENTURA (CBSLA) –  A 26-year-old man wanted in the shooting death of his father and his father's girlfriend in Orange County was taken into custody Friday afternoon in Inglewood.

Luke William Ferguson, arrested in Inglewood following a traffic stop, is suspected of fatally gunning down 51-year-old Lisa Cosenza -- who was once the ad director of the Los Angeles Times' local newspapers in Orange County -- and her boyfriend, 59-year-old Doug Ferguson. He also shot and wounded two other men who survived.

Just before noon, the search for Ferguson centured on a Ventura neighborhood. For a time, schools in the area were on lockdown when Ventura police learned that the suspect was possibly at a residence in the area of Dunning Street and Telegraph Road.

Ventura police SWAT responded and shut down surrounding streets. St. Bonaventure High School, Anacapa Middle School and St. Paul's Episcopal Church were all placed on lockdown.

About three hours later, however, Inglewood police spotted the suspect driving a stolen vehicle at high speed and made a traffic stop near La Cienega and Manchester boulevards, where they detained Ferguson, Orange County Sheriff's spokeswoman Jaimee Blashaw said.

The stolen vehicle and a handgun were recovered at the scene of the arrest, she said.

Orange County sheriff's personnel soon arrived and arrested Ferguson on suspicion of homicide and attempted homicide. They transported him to headquarters for questioning, according to Blashaw, who said Ferguson was expected to be booked into the county jail. Ferguson was being held without bail. He is scheduled to be arraigned on Tuesday.

Ferguson was previously arrested in November 2014 by Los Angeles police on unspecified misdemeanor charges and was sentenced to 273 days in jail.

The shooting was reported at 2:48 p.m. Thursday in Ashbury Court, in the Hamptons community of Aliso Viejo. Ferguson shot four people total. The sheriff's department has not confirmed the relationships between the victims and shooter, but one victim, Todd Kuchar, who was shot in the leg, told CBS2 that all the victims lived in the same house as the suspect.

Kuchar said the gunman had a smirk on his face as he opened fire.

The other wounded man was identified by CBS2 as Brandon Dufault, who was shot in the face and remains hospitalized.
