Alhambra Man Arrested After Overnight Truck Chase

ALHAMBRA (CBSLA.com) — A 24-year-old man was arrested early Sunday morning after leading the California Highway Patrol on a 45-minute chase from Bellflower to Alhambra in a stolen truck.

CHP Officer Monica Posada said the chase started at 11:43 p.m. Saturday in Bellflower, when Luis Ruben Catalan, of Alhambra, refused to pull over for police while heading west on the 91 Freeway in a 2015 Freightliner bobtail truck. Instead, he drove the three-axle truck down off-ramps on three occasions, traveling through the intersections with surface streets without obeying traffic signals. In some cases, the officer said, Catalan went through the intersections at 50 mph.

The driver eventually got on the 710 Freeway via the Atlantic Avenue on-ramp in Long Beach, and attempted to ram the passenger side of a CHP car, Posada said. After reaching speeds over 65 mph, the driver used the Ramona Boulevard exit in Monterey Park, drove to a residential area and abandoned the truck. After a short foot chase, Catalan was arrested in the 3200 block of Ramona Boulevard in Alhambra.
