Albertson's Stores Hacked For Credit, Debit Card Information

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — The parent company of Albertson's said Friday that the chain recently discovered hackers tried to breach some of their stores to steal credit and debit card information.

AB Acquisition LLC says the attempted data breach is believed to have started on June 22 and ended on July 17. The Idaho-based company says it has not determined that any cardholder data was stolen and has no evidence of misuse of any such data. Albertson's officials say they believe the breach has been contained and customers should be able to safely use their credit and debit cards in stores.

According to the company, Albertson's stores in Southern California, Idaho, Montana, North Dakota, Nevada, Oregon, Washington, Wyoming and Southern Utah were affected. Other chains operated by AB Acquisition LLC across the country have also been affected.

"As soon as we were notified of the incident, we began working closely with SUPERVALU to determine what happened, Mark Bates, senior vice president and chief information officer, said in a statement. "It's important to note that there is no evidence at this point that consumer data has been misused."
