Aggressive Mountain Lion Killed In Orange County Wilderness Park

LAKE FOREST (CBSLA.com) — Wildlife officials shot and killed an aggressive mountain lion in Orange County over the weekend.

The incident happened Sunday in Whiting Ranch Wilderness Park near Lake Forest.

Authorities said the 1-year-old cat hissed and came a few feet away from a family.

The family was able to get away and called 911.

Two mountain bikers came down the trail and scared the animal away.

A short time later, game wardens encountered the mountain lion.

"The lion was 15 feet off the trail in some bushes. The warden attempted to scare it off, it walked towards the warden and the warden shot it," Dan Sforza, assistant chief of the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, said.

Patrols have been increased at the park.
