#BlackTransLivesMatter Activists Near Staples Center Shut Down Portion of Figueroa

STAPLES CENTER (CBSLA.com) — Dozens of activists on Tuesday night gathered on a street corner near Staples Center in downtown Los Angeles to call attention to issues in the black transgender community.

The movement has organized under the Twitter hashtag #BlackTransLivesMatter. Other gatherings were held around the country for "Trans Liberation Tuesday." As many as 60 activists attended the downtown Los Angeles event.

Police responded to the scene after some activists appeared to be on a Metrolink track, but no arrests were made.

Authorities closed a portion of Figueroa Street between Chick Hearn Court and Pico Boulevard.

The group appeared to be disbanding around 8:30 p.m.
