893-acre brush fire east of Moreno Valley fully contained

Lisa Fire torches more than 400 acres east of Moreno Valley

A large brush fire that scorched nearly 900 acres east of Moreno Valley is 100 % contained. 

The fire, dubbed the Lisa Fire by crews, was first reported a little after 1 p.m. Sunday near the intersection of Gilman Springs Road and Alessandro Boulevard, according to Riverside County Fire Department officials. 

After just four hours, firefighters reported that the blaze had quickly grown from 77 acres to 867 acres. As of 9 a.m. Tuesday, the fire was 100% contained, but the rough terrain, known as the Badlands, had made the battle difficult.

Multiple engine and hand crews were sent to the site of the fire, where they have been supported by CalFire air tankers and water-dropping helicopters.Cal Fire aircraft left early Sunday evening, and did not assist in Monday's firefighting efforts. 

There were no injuries or evacuations and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
