Crews Close 60 Freeway Before Snuffing Out Rubbish Fire

EAST LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Crews temporarily shut down both sides of the 60 Freeway in East Los Angeles Sunday as they battled a nearby brush fire.

The highway was closed around 10:50 a.m. at Whittier Boulevard, according to California Highway Patrol, who initially reported the blaze as a brush fire.

Crews discovered it was a rubbish fire and were able to quickly put it out.

Both sides of the freeway were reopened within the hour.
