CBS News Los Angeles

Police are still searching for the hit-and-run driver who struck and killed a 51-year-old bicyclist in Northridge on Thursday.

The collision happened at around 9:20 p.m. near the 8500 block of N. Lindley Avenue and Parthenia Street, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

Officers arrived at the scene and found the victim, since identified as Danny Oerlemans. He was pronounced dead at the scene by Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics.

Investigators say that Oerlemans was riding his bicycle near Napa Street when he was hit by a car driving northbound on Lindley Avenue, throwing him from his bike and into the street.

Instead of stopping, the car fled from the area.

Police say that between four or five other cars also hit Oerlemans while he was in the road. It's unclear how many, if any, of those drivers stopped to cooperate with their investigation.

There was no vehicle or suspect description on the first car involved.
