5 Killed In Fiery 3-Vehicle Crash In Chino

CHINO (CBSLA.com) — Police were investigating a multi-vehicle collision Saturday that claimed the lives of five people last night.

Officers said four of the victims were friends that graduated from Roosevelt High School.

Two of the victims, Nathan Dominguez and Andrew De Leon, 19, have been identified by the coroner's office.

Luis Ayala Mendoza, 47, of Corona also died in the fiery crash, officials said.

KCAL9's Cristy Fajardo reported of the deadly accident.

According to the Chino Police Department, crews were sent around 8:46 p.m. Friday to a collision located on Pine Avenue between Mill Creek Avenue and Chino Corona Road.

Officers said three vehicles, a 2000 full size extended cab Chevrolet truck, a 2002 Honda Civic and a 2013 Honda Accord, were involved in the crash.

Two of the vehicles were engulfed in flames, authorities said.

Officers said the four male victims were traveling in the Chevrolet truck, which caught on fire after crashing into the k-rail and triggered a chain reaction car pile-up.

According to police, the driver of the Honda Civic, however, was released from the scene with non-life threatening injuries.

CBS2's Mills reported Saturday the speed limit in the area is 25 miles per hour on a very busy, rough and narrow road.

Officials said Pine Avenue remained closed until around noon Saturday as the investigation continued.

The cause of the collision and contributing factors are still under investigation, officers said.

Identification of the other victims are being withheld until family is notified.

A vigil is being held at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at Roosevelt High School in Eastvale.
