2 Adults, 3 Children Injured When Struck By SUV In Highland Park

HIGHLAND PARK (CBSLA.com) — Two adults and three children where injured Friday morning when they were struck by a vehicle as they walked to school in Highland Park.

The accident happened at 8:12 a.m. in a crosswalk at the intersection of N. Avenue 57 and Meridian Street, near Yorkdale Elementary School, the Los Angeles Fire Department said.

A 52-year-old grandmother, a 32-year-old woman and three children were crossing the street when an 87-year-old male driver hit them with his SUV.

Witnesses reported hearing the driver say he accidentally hit the gas instead on the brake.

The grandmother and a 10-year-old girl were critically injured, while the other woman and her two sons suffered non-life threatening injuries. All five patients were transported to a local hospital, according to Erick Scott of the LAFD.

"All five patients are related," he added.

The driver, who had a valid driver's license, was not injured.

Crisis counselors have been sent to the elementary school.
