48-Year-Old Man Charged With Murder, Attempted Murder Stemming From 2 Separate Incidents
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Authorities said a 48-year-old man has been charged with murder and attempted murder stemming from two separate incidents that took place less than a week apart in South Los Angeles.
The Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office announced Friday that Floyd Odell pleaded not guilty to one count of murder and two counts each of attempted murder and assault with a firearm, and one count of possession of a firearm by a felon.
Odell is scheduled to return to the Foltz Criminal Justice Center on June 4 for a preliminary hearing.
The accused allegedly shot a man named Charlie Wilson shortly after 3 a.m. on May 18.
The DA says Wilson went to answer the door at his home in the 700 block of West 79th Street when he was shot multiple times. Wilson died at the scene.
Prosecutors say six days earlier, Odell shot his nephew and his nephew's wife around 11 p.m. in the 6900 block of Menlo Avenue. The DA alleges Odell shot his nephew in the pelvis area and the woman in the hand as they walked to their car. Both were taken to a nearby hospital and treated for their injuries.
No motives were given for either shooting.
If convicted of all charges, Odell faces up to 50 years to life in state prison.
Prosecutors are recommending bail be set at $2 million in each case.
