4 Suspected Of Stealing ATMs From OC Rite Aid Stores

TUSTIN (CBSLA.com) — Four men who police say stole ATMs from two Rite Aid stores in south Orange County were in custody Wednesday.

One of the ATMs, stolen from a Tustin Rite Aid, had a GPS tracking chip, which led Tustin police to two cars at a Chevron Station at El Toro Road and the Golden State (5) Freeway in Lake Forest at about 4 a.m., according to Tustin police officials.

The Cadillac was surrounded by police, and the two men inside were arrested. But the second car, a rented Dodge Challenger, took off and led police on a short chase before it stopped in the middle of the 5 Freeway near Oso Parkway.

The freeway's southbound lanes were shut down while the two men in the car were taken into custody, police said.

A large amount of cash was recovered from both cars.
