4 Stabbed During Drunken Melee In Long Beach

LONG BEACH (CBSLA.com) — Several people were hospitalized Tuesday for treatment of stab wounds that were sustained during a drunken melee in Long Beach.

The stabbings took place in the area between the 1100 and 1400 block of East 4th Street around 2 a.m. as bars were closing, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

Upon their arrival, paramedics transported four victims to various hospitals.

One of the victims was transported in critical condition.

A preliminary investigation revealed the incident began with a verbal confrontation between a group of drunken men.

One person pulled out a knife and subsequently stabbed the victims.

Police said 4th Street from Nebraska Avenue to Almond Street will remain closed until further notice.

The investigation is ongoing.
