4 Killed When Speeding BMW Slams Into Tree, Erupts In Flames In Northridge

NORTHRIDGE (CBSLA) – Two men and two women were killed when their BMW, traveling at speeds upwards of 100 miles per hour, lost control and crashed Friday night in Northridge. Police, meanwhile, are searching for a second vehicle that was speeding in the same direction at the time as the crash.

According to Los Angeles police, the silver BMW carrying four people was speeding east on Lassen Street at 10:55 p.m. when the male driver lost control at Balboa Boulevard, crested over a hill, slammed into a tree and then struck a wall. The impact was so strong it severed the car into several pieces. The vehicle also erupted into flames.

The victims were identified by the Los Angeles County coroner's office as 20-year-old Martin Gomez of Granada Hills, 20-year-old Denney Lomeli of North Hills, 21-year-old Leena Ammari of Reseda and 22-year-old Amanda Alfar of Panorama City.

Police told CBS2 that witnesses saw a black sedan speeding in the same direction at the same time. Police released a surveillance photo of the car on Twitter Saturday. Detectives are trying to determine whether the two vehicles may have been street racing.
