4 hospitalized after large boat catches fire in Long Beach

Boat fire remains under investigation in Long Beach

Authorities are still investigating what caused a large boat to catch fire in Long Beach on Friday evening, which caused all of the passengers to jump into the water to avoid the flames.

It happened at around 7:10 p.m., in the channel of water near the Queen Mary and Hotel Maya, according to the Long Beach Fire Department.

For unknown reasons, the 30-foot vessel caught fire, leading all seven of the people on board to abandon ship.

Rescue crews saved all seven of the people who jumped overboard, four of which required hospitalization. None of their conditions were immediately known. The three others were treated on scene but did not require medical transport.

Crews took the vessel to an isolation dock, where investigators are still working to determine what sparked the flames.

Video from Citizen app shows large flames on a boat in the middle of the water, with a large plume of smoke billowing above.
