$30,000 Reward Offered In Stray-Bullet Killing Of 16-Year-Old Girl In Lynwood
LYNWOOD (CBSLA.com) — A $30,000 reward was offered Wednesday for information leading to the arrest of the killer of a 16-year-old girl in Lynwood.
Danah Rojo-Rivas was in the backseat of her mother's car, leaving a church function on the night before Thanksgiving when she was fatally struck by the stray bullet.
"Dana was screaming. She was saying, 'Mom! Gunshots! Gunshots!'" Rojo-Rivas' mother recalled. "She was screaming. When I stopped, Danah got quiet."
The teenager was remembered by friends and family as a kind and generous student who played on the softball team at Gardena High School and volunteered at a local animal shelter.
"My daughter was an angel," her mother said. "I lived with an angel."
Now detectives are searching for information that could lead to finding her killer.
The $30,000 reward is being offered by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors and private contributors.
Rivas' mother is hoping it leads to an arrest.
"I don't want anyone else to wake up and have to get ready for a funeral for someone who doesn't deserve to die," she said. "If you know who that person is, please be a little bit brave in life and do something that maybe you would feel better about later. Maybe save a life."
