Suspect Arrested In Deadly Shooting Outside San Bernardino Hookah Lounge

SAN BERNARDINO (CBSLA.com) — A suspect has been arrested in the fatal shooting of three family members outside of a 24-hour hookah lounge in San Bernardino early Friday morning.

Police responded to reports of a shooting shortly before 4:20 a.m. in the 1900 block of Diners Court.

Officers on scene discovered three victims suffering from gunshot wounds in a parking lot.

Kevin Johnson, 26, was pronounced dead at the scene. His cousins, brothers David Lawler, 21, and Tye Freeman, 20, were taken to Loma Linda University Medical Center, where they later died.

An investigation revealed that at least one of the victims is a known gang member.

The suspect who was taken into custody, 32-year-old Travon Stokes, is also part of a gang, according to officials.

Authorities said before the crime, the victims and the suspect had an argument, where gang affiliation was acknowledged.

The suspect then fired at the victims before he fled the area in a red or burgundy 4-door vehicle, police said.

The exact motive for the shooting is unknown.

Family members of the victims gathered at the site where the shooting occurred.

"It's made everyone upset, other people angry," Johnson's girlfriend, Imoni Wharry, said.

Wharry said her last words to her boyfriend were "I love you."

"He meant everything to me, that's my boyfriend. We were almost about to get married. He was very bubbly, very happy, always trying to make somebody happy," she said.

Anyone with information was asked to contact Det. Josh Cunningham at (909) 384-5745 or Sgt. Gary Robertson at (909) 841-5361.
