2-Year-Old Boy Dies Days After Being Struck By Hit-And-Run Driver

SAN BERNARDINO (CBSLA.com) — A 2-year-old boy severely injured Wednesday by a hit-and-run driver in San Bernardino has died.

The family plans to hold a prayer vigil Friday night in front of their home.

Jonathan Montes, known as JR to his family, suffered a traumatic brain injury after being struck by a car in front of his home on Perris Hill Road and East Base Line Street.

"The car didn't even slow down. You didn't even hear a screech. The car just kept going," said Nicholas Ortega, JR's uncle.

The family says JR was playing at the end of the driveway when he saw his uncle across the street. He ran into the street a sedan driving south slammed into the boy. He went airborne before striking the pavement.

"My baby was so small and to see him fly a hundred feet and not even stop …" said Angel Montes, the child's mother.

JR was hospitalized with severe injuries and placed on life support. The boy succumbed to his wounds Friday morning.

Anyone with information about the collision or suspect is urged to contact authorities.
