3 Injured In Deputy-Involved Shooting In Whittier

WHITTIER (CBSLA) — Three suspects were transported to the hospital after a deputy-involved shooting south of Whittier.

The shooting took place at 14000 Leffingwell Road in unincorporated Whittier after the suspect led the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department on a pursuit. Deputies shot two suspects of the three suspects. They were transported to the hospital with gunshot wounds. One of the responding deputies was struck by the suspects' sedan and transported to a nearby hospital. He has since been treated and released.

According to LASD, deputies pulled over the sedan. Once they came to a stop, deputies approached the driver and the two occupants but the driver then reversed toward the deputies, ramming the patrol car. This is when the deputy-involved shooting happened.

The driver and occupants then began to flee but were apprehended shortly after. One suspect, a woman in her early 20s was shot in her upper body and was later treated and released from the hospital. The suspected driver, a 20-year-old man, was shot in the leg and is said to be stable.

The third suspect, a 21-year-old man, was wanted for auto theft and a loaded handgun found on him.
