2 Unharmed After BMW Veers Off PCH Into O.C. Waters

HUNTINGTON BEACH (CBSLA.com) — Two people escaped unharmed after their vehicle skidded off a road Monday night and landed in water in Orange County.

The accident involving the brand-new BMW happened about 8 p.m. on the Pacific Coast Highway near the Bolsa Chica Wetlands in Huntington Beach.

After the crash, firefighters said the female driver and her male passenger safely got out of the car and swam to shore.

Both were uninjured.

Huntington Beach police told KCAL9's Stacey Butler they did not ask the driver to submit to a field sobriety test and believe the crash was an accident.

Police said the driver likely slammed on her brakes and swerved off the road to avoid hitting the driver in front of her, who applied brakes for no known reason.

Footage from the crash site showed the BMW submerged in water. The driver declined an on-camera interview.

Police also don't believe the weather contributed to the crash.
