2 SigAlerts Snarl Early Morning Commute On Both Sides Of 405 Freeway In South Bay

LAWNDALE (CBSLA.com) — Traffic along the San Diego (405) Freeway in the South Bay area was snarled Wednesday morning by two different crashes, including a fatal collision between a big rig and a sedan.

All southbound lanes of the 405 Freeway were closed until further notice following the fatal accident just south of Hawthorne Boulevard at about 4:15 a.m., California Highway Patrol Officer Francisco Villalobos said.

The truck had collided with the car and slammed the car into a wall, Villalobos said. A man in his 60s died at the scene.

A SigAlert was declared by the CHP at 4:29 a.m., Villalobos said. All southbound lanes were closed at that point and traffic was being diverted off the freeway at Hawthorne Boulevard. There was no immediate word on when the lanes would reopen.

A second crash involving a motorcycle blocked several lanes on the northbound 405 Freeway at Inglewood Boulevard, backing traffic all the way up to the Long Beach (710) Freeway.

All lanes were reopened as of 8 a.m., according to the CHP.
