2 Pit Bulls With Signs Of Abuse Rescued From Busy Southland Freeway
MORENO VALLEY (CBSLA.com) — Two pit bulls with signs of abuse continued to recover Tuesday after being rescued from a busy Southland freeway.
Edson Flores saw Hazel and another pit bull he has named Oreo near the 210 Freeway. Both were running through traffic.
"Hazel was packed full of packing tape on her, well, her belly and underneath it, she had just a regular kitchen napkin and just a nice-size hole," said Flores, who realized after he got hold of the dog that she was wrapped in tape.
"She was very scared. Her chest was wide open," said Lori Allen of Sunnymeade Veterinary Clinic in Moreno Valley. "Apparently, they found her with duct tape wrapped around her stomach tied to another dog."
Flores took Hazel to veterinarian Hong Park at the clinic for help.
"She cannot nurse her babies, you know, and wasn't in good shape, so I was just trying to save her life," said Park, who has been in practice for 35 years.
He frequently treats dogs and cats even if their owners cannot pay the bills.
Park rushed 3-year-old Hazel into emergency surgery to treat ruptured and infected mammary glands.
Hazel is recovering.
With help from Flores and Second Chance Rescue in Norco, both pit bulls will hopefully find homes as soon as they're better.
