2 Killed When OC Police Chase Ends In Fiery Rollover Crash

TUSTIN (CBSLA.com) — Two motorists were killed and another suffered critical injuries in a fiery collision Saturday at the end of an Orange County police pursuit.

Shortly before 2 a.m., California Highway Patrol reports that officers spotted a silver Kia Sol traveling at least 90 mph on the northbound 55 Freeway north of Dyer Road.

The driver continued north and exited at 17th Street. When the driver approached Newport Avenue they lost control of the car and the Kia crashed into a brick column, rolled over several times and burst into flames.

Officers were able to pull a man in his early 20s from a passenger seat but weren't able to rescue the driver and another passenger.

Paramedics were dispatched to the scene at 2:03 a.m. and transported the man to Western Medical Center in Santa Ana. He was listed in critical condition, Orange County Fire Authority Steve Concialdi said.

"The other two people in the vehicle died instantly," Concialdi said.

Officials have not yet released the identities of the two people killed.
