2 Deputies, County Officer Injured In Separate Car Accidents

SANTA FE SPRINGS (CBSLA.com) — Two deputies and a county officer are recovering Tuesday from injuries they suffered in accidents overnight.

Two deputies were injured in an accident on the southbound San Gabriel River (605) Freeway at the Washington Boulevard exit at about 11 p.m. Monday, Los Angeles County sheriff's Sgt. J. Vasquez said.

The deputies were responding to a call about a man with a gun and the deputy driving struck a raised median on the exit ramp, causing the vehicle to go out of control, Vasquez said.

Injuries were minor, he said, but the deputies were transported to a hospital, treated and released.

About 10 minutes earlier, a county Security Services officer was injured while following a sheriff's deputy in a patrol car to a call of shots fired in a park near Imperial Highway and Central Avenue in South Los Angeles, a sergeant said.

The deputy and officer were northbound on Central Avenue and a Toyota Camry was westbound on Imperial Highway at 10:50 p.m. Monday, Los Angeles police Sgt. Hendley said.

"The Camry ran a red light and collided with the Security Services officer's vehicle," Hawkins said. "The officer has neck strain, the Camry driver has two broken ribs, face lacerations and got stitches in his forehead," the sergeant said. Both were transported to hospitals for treatment.

The accident remains under investigation, Hawkins said.
