2 Cousins Praised For Rescuing Mother, Daughter From Car Wreck In Moreno Valley

MORENO VALLEY  (CBSLA.com) — Two teen cousins were praised for rescuing a woman and her young daughter from a car wreck in Moreno Valley.

Elijah and Jovantay Henderson said they had just finished shopping at Moreno Valley Mall on Tuesday night and were waiting for their grandmother to pick them up when they heard a loud noise of a car braking on the 60 Freeway.

Then the 16-year-old cousins said they saw a car spinning out of control and landing on a chain-link fence on the edge of the freeway.

The Riverside teens immediately ran toward the scene of the car crash. A witness said she saw the boys run across the parking lot, climbed an embankment and squeezed through a break in the fence to get to the crashed car.

They both jumped on top of the vehicle. Jovantay said as Elijah held the passenger door open, he crawled inside and pulled the woman and her daughter out.

"First thing that came to my mind was I was supposed to help. If that was my mom or someone else that I really care about, I'd want someone to help her," Elijah said.

Fortunately, mother and daughter were not seriously hurt in the car crash.
