17-year-old arrested for allegedly killing ex-girlfriend in Long Beach

Police have arrested a 17-year-old boy on allegations that he shot and killed his ex-girlfriend in Long Beach in November. 

The shooting happened on Nov. 22 at around 11:40 a.m., when Long Beach Police Department officers were dispatched to the 900 block of Gaviota Avenue, according to a statement from police at the time. 

Paramedics rushed the victim, since identified as 21-year-old Justice Lopez, to the hospital where she later died. 

Investigators located the suspect, Lopez's ex-boyfriend, on Nov. 26 in the 6100 block of Orange Avenue, the LBPD statement said.

He was arrested and booked for two unrelated warrants and remains jailed without bail after detectives identified him as the suspect in Lopez's murder. 

The teen's name has not been released due to his age, police said. They still have not yet released a motive for the shooting.
