Officials ID Teen They Believe Was Killed By Younger Brother In Claremont

CLAREMONT (CBSLA.com) — A 14-year-old has been arrested in Claremont in the fatal stabbing of his sister, officials said.

A 911 call came into authorities just before 5:10 p.m. Wednesday about a girl not breathing at a home in the 300 block of Andover Drive.

Paramedics were called to the location but were unable to revive the victim.

Police said they saw the 14-year-old walking away from the home and arrested him.

Today, friends and classmates mourned the loss of 15-year-old Aspen Geurts.

Many of the friends told CBS2's Amy Johnson they weren't even aware Geurts had a brother even though both attended Glendora High School.

"Everyone was crying," said Christelle Chakcazof, "even teachers that didn't have her. It was a really sad day, a bad day for all of us."

That was a sentiment echoed by student Bailey Allison.

"It was very sad. The torch was lit around nutrition, everyone was gathered around it. I've never seen that many kids around the torch like that. It was crazy."

Jordan Salgado had just talked to Aspen in English class Wednesday.

"She was really nice. She was kinda reserved, though. To herself. Like, she sat in the back of the classroom," said Salgado.

None of the classmates knew she had a brother.

"She was always quiet. She really didn't talk that much. She never really said much. I didn't even know she had any siblings," said Allison. "Especially one who went here."

Authorities said Aspen's body was found in the home's back yard.

The brother is being held at Los Padrinos Juvenile Hall.

Officials said it was the first homicide in Claremont in six years.
