$12.6M Worth Of Pot Seized In LASD Bust

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Authorities seized more than $12 million of marijuana during the bust of a sophisticated growing operation in several Southland cities, the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department said Friday.

The LASD was recently notified by Southern California Edison about a possible indoor marijuana grow at a commercial building.

"Detectives investigated, linked and later executed a multi-location search warrant at four locations in Los Angeles," officials said.

More than 23,000 marijuana plants were seized Thursday from grows in LA, San Dimas, Walnut and the City of Industry. Altogether, the plants were valued at about $12.6 million.

Detectives also determined that there was more than $2.2 million in electrical theft during the 10-year operation.

Nine men, whose names have not been released, were arrested and booked on narcotics and theft charges.

"This operation was capable of generating $72.6 million dollars in marijuana sales per year," the LASD said.
