Off-duty police officer involved in deadly shooting in North Hills

Investigators closed a 405 Freeway off-ramp in North Hills after a deadly police shooting Thursday night.

The shooting happened just before 8:20 p.m. near the Roscoe Boulevard off-ramp of the 405 Freeway, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. Investigators said an off-duty officer from the Beverly Hills Police Department witnessed a fight between two people near the freeway exit.

LAPD detectives said one of the men fighting was armed with a pipe while the other was armed with a handgun. The off-duty officer killed the suspect armed with a pistol. There was what appeared to be a firearm left in a pool of blood next to a dead body.

Officers cordoned off a bicycle and a nearby Jeep at the scene before closing a portion of Roscoe Boulevard. The California High Patrol also closed the entrance and exits for the southbound 405 Freeway at Roscoe Boulevard.

Police detained the other man involved in the fight. Beverly Hills police said they would assist the LAPD with the investigation.

There is no danger to the public.
