1 Innocent Victim Dead, 5 Hurt In Paramount Street Racing Crash Involving 5 Vehicles
PARAMOUNT (CBSLA.com) — One woman was killed and five people injured in a crash officials are blaming on street racing in Paramount.
The accident occurred around 7:30 p.m. at Orange Ave and Somerset Boulevard, authorities said.
The deceased is an innocent bystander described as a woman between 50-70 years of age.
CBS2's Peter Daut said five other people were injured, including two critically.
The deceased was revived at the scene but later died at a hospital.
Police said a dark full-sized pickup, which fled the scene, was racing northbound on Orange Ave with another vehicle when it ran a red light at Somerset.
"The gray truck behind us was racing, and turned, and when he turned he couldn't stop. He only stopped when he hit the other cars, and I heard a loud noise," said Lydia Torres, an eyewitness.
Daut reported on the CBS2 News at 11 p.m. Wednesday and said investigators have cordoned off the area and expect the intersection to be closed for several more hours.
He also reported that one of the drivers that was racing was apparently drinking and alcohol was found in that vehicle.
