1 dead, two hospitalized after three-car crash at Temecula intersection

One person was killed and two others were hospitalized after a violent three-car crash at a busy Temecula intersection on Friday. 

It happened a little after 10 a.m. at Santiago Road and Ynez Road, near the Van Avery Prep Private School, according to the Riverside County Fire Department. 

Firefighters arrived to the scene and found one of the three cars had ended up on its side while the other two had sustained major damage. Paramedics pronounced one of the drivers dead at the scene. 

They have not yet been identified pending notification of next of kin.

The other two victims were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment on moderate injuries, firefighters said. 

Riverside County Sheriff's Department deputies closed the intersection for several hours as the wreckage was cleared.

Investigators are still working to determine what caused the crash.
