San Fernando Boy, 17, Dead In 210 Freeway Rollover Crash

TUJUNGA (CBSLA.com)  — A 17-year-old boy from San Fernando was killed Sunday in a two-vehicle crash on the Foothill (210) Freeway in Tujunga.

The teen -- whose name has not been released -- was driving a 1994 Honda Civic on the westbound side of the freeway west of La Tuna Canyon Road about 2:40 p.m. when the car collided with a westbound 2009 Lexus ES350 driven by a 46-year-old Stevens Ranch man, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Both vehicles veered toward the right shoulder and the Honda overturned, ejecting the driver, according to the CHP.

The Lexus slammed into the mountainside beyond the shoulder and came to a stop, the CHP reported.

The Honda driver was taken to Providence Holy Cross Medical Center in Mission Hills, where he was pronounced dead, according to the CHP. A 19-year-old Granada Hills woman, who was a passenger in the Civic, was not injured. The Lexus driver was also not hurt.

The deceased was wearing his safety belt at the time of the crash, the CHP reported.

The crash closed two westbound lanes of the freeway until about 5 p.m.
