Woman, dog dead following multi-car crash on 405 Freeway in Westwood

A woman and a dog were killed and multiple other people were injured during a multi-car crash on the 405 Freeway near Westwood on Friday. 

It happened on northbound lanes near Wilshire Boulevard at around 6:45 p.m., according to the California Highway Patrol. 

Firefighters were dispatched to the scene, where they said one person was trapped inside of a car and needed rescuing, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department. They say that one person, identified as 72-year-old woman Margaret Jackson, and a dog died in the crash. 

Three others were injured, two of which were said to be in critical condition, firefighters said. The third person, a 60-year-old female, is in fair condition. 

As a result of the crash, a SigAlert was issued for three lanes on the northbound side of the freeway until just after 10:30 p.m., CHP officers said. 

Firefighters say that one dog was missing after running onto the freeway but it has since been caught by authorities.
