Police arrest domestic violence suspect following lengthy pursuit, standoff in West Covina
West Covina police were in pursuit of a driver on the southbound 710 Freeway, from the 105 Freeway, who was reportedly wanted for suspected child endangerment Tuesday evening.
Police clarified that the want was not child endangerment, but suspected domestic violence.
The chase began at a little before 9 p.m. in West Covina before the suspect led officers on a chase through the Southland often hurtling along freeways at speeds of up to 100 miles per hour.
When the suspect returned to West Covina, officers were able to ram the vehicle, causing the driver to slam into another vehicle in the area, bringing the pursuit to a sudden stop at 11:10 p.m.
Officers promptly surrounded the vehicle with guns drawn, but the suspect refused to exit the vehicle until around 2:30 a.m., following an hours-long standoff. Both a SWAT team and a K-9 team were called to the scene to assist with the barricaded suspect. They also fired non-lethal ammunition into the vehicle as the suspect resisted their efforts.
As the standoff continued, officers evacuated several homes in the area, though they were allowed to return home soon after the suspect was taken into custody.
According to police, the victim of the domestic violence sustained several injuries, though they are considered to be non-life threatening.

Despite ending just before 11:30 p.m., the suspect was not taken into custody until a little before 3 a.m. after barricading themselves in their vehicle.
He was arrested without further incident.
