AP: Malia Cohen wins race for CA State Controller

The Associated Press predicts that Malia Cohen has been elected as the next California State Controller. 

Cohen, a Democrat, is the first Black woman to hold the spot as California's  top chief fiscal officer.

She defeated Republican Lanhee Chen, a former policy adviser to Mitt Romney's presidential campaign, who won the June primary but received less votes than the four Democrats who were up against him.

Measure EE, which would allow San Bernardino County to seek funding to explore secession from California, remains in a near deadlock, with 51% of current votes tallied leaning towards approval, while 49% lead towards rejection.

Associated Press: Ricardo Lara reelected as California Insurance Commissioner

The Associated Press has called the race for California Insurance Commissioner in favor of Ricardo Lara, who was first elected to the position in 2018. 

When first elected, he became the first openly gay person elected a statewide office in the history of California.

AP calls race for Superintendent of Public Instruction in favor of Tony Thurmond

The Associated Press has called the race for California Superintendent of Public Instruction in favor of Tony Thurmond, earning reelection to the position he first won in 2018.

AP: Fiona Ma earns reelection as California State Treasurer

The Associated Press has called the race for State Treasurer in California, indicating that incumbent Fiona Ma has won reelection. 

She was first elected in 2018 and was sworn into office in 2019, becoming the first woman of color to hold the position.

Associated Press projects Shirley Weber earns full term as Secretary of State

After being appointed to the position in 2021 by Gov. Gavin Newsom in order to replace Alex Padilla, who was appointed to the U.S. Senate, Shirley Weber has earned a full term as California Secretary of State, according to Associated Press.

She won with 57.9% of the vote, becoming the first Black woman to be elected to the position in California.

AP calls race for CA Lieutenant Governor in favor of Eleni Kounalakis

The Associated Press projects that Eleni Kounalakis has won reelection as California's Lieutenant Governor. They called the race with Kounalakis securing 57.6% of the votes currently tallied compared to her competitor, Angela Underwood Jacobs's 42.4%.

AP: Rob Bonta clinches four-year term

Associated Press has reported that current California Attorney General Rob Bonta will become the first ever Filipino to get elected to the position in any state after securing the victory against his opponent in the Midterm Elections. 

He was first instated to the position by Gov. Gavin Newsom, who selected him to succeed Xavier Becerra, who resigned from the position to hold a position under President Joe Biden.

CBS News projects Sen. Alex Padilla reelected for seat in U.S. Senate

CBS News projects Democrat Alex Padilla wins reelection to the U.S. Senate in California, defeating Republican challenger Mark Meuser.

Padilla was voted in for both the short term and he will also serve a full six-year stint in Senate after winning the vote second vote. 

He initially took over the position when Kamala Harris was selected as President Joe Biden's running partner.
