LA City Councilmember Mitch O'Farrell on Tuesday announced his concession in the race to represent the 13th District after the latest polling totals showed that he has fallen to a large deficit behind his challenger in Hugo Soto-Martínez.

Soto-Martínez is a leader with Unite Here Local 11. He issued a statement after O'Farrell's concession which said:

"We ran this campaign to build community power for workers, immigrants, the unhoused, people of color, young people, renters, and all of us who have been neglected by our city officials. Now, we're bringing this movement into City Hall."

O'Farrell, the incumbent, was elected in 2013, assuming the seat left behind by Eric Garcetti upon his election to Mayor.

His statement read:

"Though these results were not what we hoped for, I am proud of the campaign we ran, and I am proud of my team. We will serve the constituents of the 13th District until my last day in office and ensure a smooth transition to the new Councilmember so residents can continue to receive constituent services without interruption.

From my earliest days as a neighborhood volunteer, to the last nine years as your City Councilmember, I have poured my heart and soul into the 13th District. For over 20 years, it has been a great privilege and honor to have been a public servant, working on behalf of the amazing communities of our district.

I am humbled by the outpouring of community support we received in this election. Thank you to all who passionately gave their time and resources to our campaign. I am especially grateful to my exceptional team of public servants, both past and present, for their dedication to this great district and this City."
