Live Election Results: Congressional Races

Republicans will win a majority of seats in the House of Representatives, flipping control of the lower chamber from the Democrats but by a narrower margin than many expected heading into the midterm elections, according to CBS News projections.

The Associated Press has projected that Katie Porter has been reelected to the U.S. House in California's 47th Congressional District, which represents portions of Orange County including Huntington Beach, Irvine and Laguna Beach.

The Associated Press has projected that Democrat Mike Levin has won reelection to California's 49th Congressional District. He defeated his challenger, Republican Brian Maryott, for the spot in the U.S. House of Representatives. 

The 49th District represents San Clemente, Oceanside and Laguna Niguel, amongst other coastal areas. 

The Associated Press has predicted that Mike Garcia's bid for reelection was successful, earning him a spot in Congress representing California's 27th Congressional District. 

He defeated his challenger, Christy Smith, in one of the closest battles for a spot in the House. His win was crucial in Republicans sealing control of the House of Representatives, 218 seats to 212. 

The Associated Press projects that Republican Ken Calvert has earned reelection to the U.S. House in California's 41st Congressional District, defeating his opponent, Democrat Will Rollins, in a very close race. 

The 41st District oversees portions of Southern California including Menifee, Corona and Palm Springs.

AP projects Republican Michelle Steel has been reelected to represent California's 45th Congressional District. The contentious campaign led to a neck-and-neck race between Steel, the incumbent, and her competitor Jay Chen. 

The newly redrawn 45th District Representative represents Cerritos to Buena Park and south to Westminster, Garden Grove and Fountain Valley - it is the largest Vietnamese community in the nation. 

Several Southern California races that still remain in limbo could make the difference in a swing of power in favor of one political party. After more than two days of votes being counted, the races for Districts 41 and 47.

District 41

The battle for District 41 has teetered in favor of both challengers at different points of the race, with Democrat Will Rollins jumping to a huge lead early on, only to see that lead slip away in favor of the incumbent Rep. Ken Calvert. District 41 oversees portions of Southern California including Menifee, Corona and Palm Springs.

District 47

Incumbent Rep. Katie Porter, famous for her attacks on the CEOs of massive corporations while armed with her "Whiteboard of Justice," jumped to a huge lead early on in the race against her competitor in attorney Scott Baugh.

However, a redrawn district and an apparent swing in favor of a "red wave" throughout Orange County, Porter's lead has diminished to just a few thousands votes. 

The AP has projected that Republican Young Kim will represent the state's 40th congressional district which includes Chino Hills, Anaheim and Mission Viejo. She topped her opponent Asif Mahmood with 58.5% of the vote. 

The Associated Press has predicted that Democrat Lou Correa has won reelection to the United States House of Representatives in California's 46th District, which includes Anaheim and Santa Ana, as well as parts of Orange. 

Despite falling behind early, incumbent Congressman Ken Calvert has overtaken Democrat Will Rollins in the race for the California's 41st District with the United States House of Representatives. 

The Associated Press predicts that Sydney Kamlager has won the election for the U.S. House in California's 37th District, defeating her opponent Jan Perry. 

Kamlager, a Democrat, will now represent the district which oversees much of the South Los Angeles region, replacing LA Mayoral candidate Karen Bass. 

The Associated Press has called the race for California's 29th Congressional District in favor of the incumbent Tony Cárdenas, who first took the position in 2013. His district oversees the northeast San Fernando Valley. 

The Associated Press has projected that Republican Congressman Jay Obernolte has been reelected to the United States House of Representatives. He will oversee California's 23rd Congressional District. 

Despite jumping to a massive lead early on, Mike Levin has seen numbers drawing extremely close in the race against Republican Brian Maryott for the U.S House's 49th District in California. 

Republican Mike Garcia's lead over his opponent Christy Smith continued to grow Tuesday, to the point where the incumbent Congressman already declared himself the victor despite no official call. 

Democrat Will Rollins maintained a lead he gained early after polls were first closed in California, showing nearly 10,000 more votes than his opponent in Ken Calvert, who has served on Congress since 1993. 

The Associated Press has called Grace Napolitano's reelection to the U.S. House of Representatives for California's 31st Congressional District, defeating her opponent Daniel Martinez. 

Napolitano, 85, has served on the House of Representatives since 1999. 

The Associated Press projects that Democratic Congressman Mark Takano has earned reelection to the House's 39th Congressional District in California. 

He first assumed office in 2013, at which point he became the fiirst openly gay person of Asian descent in Congress.

Democrat Pete Aguilar has reportedly been reelected to the United States House of Representatives for the 33rd Congressional District in California, according to the Associated Press. 

He first took office with Congress in 2015 and has since become vice chair of the House Democratic Caucus and the highest-ranking Latino in Congress.

The Associated Press projects that Democrat Judy Chu has been reelected for her position in the U.S. House of Representatives 28th Congressional District in California. 

Chu first assumed office in 2009 after being elected the year prior. 

The Associated Press projects that Democrat Raul Ruiz has been reelected to the United States House of Representatives in California's 25th District, a position he has held since first being elected in 2012. 

Heavy rain has caused considerable issues for the vote tallying process in Southern California, as detailed by Rick Montanez, who spoke with Los Angeles County Registrar Dean Logan. 

AP Projects: Democrat Robert Garcia wins election to U.S. House in California's 42nd Congressional District. 

Garcia is the former Mayor of Long Beach, where he acted for two terms beginning in 2014. 

He becomes the first LGBTQ immigrant to hold a seat in Congress. 

As votes continue to be tallied, several U.S. House of Representative spots remain in the air.

As polls near their close, the Los Angeles County Registrar is reporting a high amount of voters who turned out to cast their votes for the Midterm Elections.
