Live grenade found at suburban NY recycling plant
WYANDANCH, N.Y. (AP) — A live grenade has been found at a Long Island recycling plant and safely detonated by police.
Newsday reports the grenade was found Saturday morning by an employee at Omni Recycling of Babylon Inc., in the hamlet of Wyandanch.
Suffolk County Police say the plant was evacuated shortly after 7 a.m. No one was injured.
The plant manager says nothing like that has ever been found before. He said he was amazed that someone would be stupid enough to throw away such a dangerous item.
Police are trying to determine where it may have come from.
