The project will also launch a walking program that will track kids’ physical activity. Downriver Family YMCA held a kick-off on March 2nd at its school sites to distribute special ‘kits’ for participants of the walking program.

Thanks to Oakwood Healthcare's generous EcoMedia WellnessAd funding, local latchkey programs will have a Wii to share - where kids can play baseball, go bowling, and other fun sports games!
Kids are thrilled to show off their 'steps' on their new pedometers!!
As milestones for walking certain distances are met, participants will receive prizes such as toe charms and chain necklaces, to recognize and reward their achievements.
The YMCA has many ways to have a good time - like "Red Light, Green Light"!!

Local elementary school students have fun with the parachute!
Currently the Downriver Family YMCA serves over 15,000 members in the community and 175 children daily in our School Age Child Care program. The YMCA is accessible to all regardless of age, race, religion, gender, or financial standing.

'The CATCH Me If You Can program really sums up what the Y is about, which is strengthening our community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility," said Jeff McIntyre, Branch Operations Director of the Downriver Family YMCA.

The CATCH Me If You Can program encourage kids to stay active by rewarding 'tokens' to kids for walking certain distances and tracking their physical activity at home.
Participants of the walking program received their 'kits' at the March 2ndkickoff!
The kits, with Oakwood Healthcare’s financial support, include pedometers, journals, swim passes to the Downriver Y and T-shirts to help track the number of steps participants take while participating in the program.
Students receive instruction on how to use their activity journals...
...so they can track their progress after school, with their parents!
