Young Michigan Man Killed When Tree Falls On Moving Car
LAPEER TOWNSHIP (AP/WWJ) - A young man is dead after a tree fell on his car as he drove on a road in Lapeer County.
The four-door Ford was found in a ditch with the roof and windshield smashed Sunday.
Dana Loudermilk told The Flint Journal she heard a "boom" outside her home and rushed to the window on Wilder Road, between Imlay City and Peppermill roads, in Lapeer Township.
"I said to my husband, what in the heck was that?"
"I said geez, one of those trees must have blown down and it's got the traffic blocked out there," she added. "Then people started stopping and looking down in there and I thought, oh my God, somebody must have been in the car."
John Loudermilk told the Journal it's strange and tragic that a tree fell and struck a moving car at the same time. "What are the chances of the two intersecting at exactly the same point?"
It's not known if icy conditions contributed to the death.
The victim's name wasn't immediately released. He was the only person in the vehicle and no one else was injured in connection with the incident.
