Worker Hospitalized After HAZMAT Situation At Detroit Factory

DETROIT (WWJ) - One person was rushed to a local hospital following a HAZMAT situation on Detroit's east side.

Detroit Fire Department officials confirmed the incident — late Thursday morning, at a factory on Filer Ave. near 7 Mile Rd. and Mt. Elliot — but would not disclose the name of the company.

Fire officials told WWJ the victim was operating a hi-lo when he drove through a cloud of sulfuric acid.  They responded to the scene around 11:30 a.m. and declared it a level one HAZMAT situation.

The man was transported by EMS to Detroit Receiving Hospital.

His condition was not immediately known.
