Woodward Reduced To Three Lanes Over I-94 As M-1 Rail Project Continues

DETROIT (CBS Detroit) - Construction on the M-1 Rail project has moved beyond the core of downtown Detroit and has expanded down Woodward to the I-94 overpass.
Crews spent the weekend demolishing the southbound lanes of Woodward over I-94 as part of the streetcar project, which will change the traffic flow on the bridge.
Starting Monday, and continuing through Spring 2015, the Woodward bridge over I-94 will have one open northbound lane, one open southbound lane and a center turn lane.
Underground utility work also started Monday, and will require traffic control measures between Adams Street and the I-75 service drive for both north and southbound lanes. Traffic will also be shifted to northbound lanes of Woodward between Watson and Martin Luther King Boulevard
Additionally, the John R. Street entrance ramp to westbound I-94, and the eastbound I-94 exit ramp to John R. Street (215 C) will be closed for the duration of bridge construction
As this new construction gets underway, work will continue in along Woodward between Campus Martius to Adams Street. Construction crews removed pavement along the route in preparation for track installation.
While the roadway is closed, the sidewalks have remained open and walkways have been installed across Woodward make these areas more accessible.
Officials expect construction to last 27 months on the 3.3 mile streetcar project.
