Woodhaven Apartments Catch Fire For Second Time In 5 Months
WOODHAVEN (WWJ) - The American Red Cross is assisting several families who have been burned out of their apartments in Woodhaven for the second time in just five months.
The fire took off late Tuesday night at the Southpointe Square Apartments on West Road just west of I-75 in Woodhaven. Flames were reportedly shooting up to 35 feet in the air before crews were able to get the blaze under control. Firefighters remained on the scene Wednesday morning.
One woman believed to be in the unit where the fire started was taken to the hospital with injuries. Her current condition is unknown. No further injuries were reported.
Scott Marks, who lives next door to the building that went up in flames, said he could barely believe what was happening.
"It's the second one [fire] since November," Marks told WWJ's Mike Campbell. "You know, I'm not sure what to think anymore. I'm looking at this in the daytime and when you can see through the rafters and you see daylight, that's not a good thing."
A cause of the fire is under investigation.
