Woman Reported Dead During Flood Is Alive

WARREN (AP/WWJ) — A woman who suffered seizures while her car was stalled out in chest-deep flood water did not die as reported earlier this week by officials in Warren.

The Detroit Free Press reports Friday that a summary of the incident from the city's fire department to Warren Mayor James Fouts says the 30-year-old woman improved on the way to a local hospital and was released. The newspaper obtained a copy of the summary.

Warren Fire Chief David Frederick had said bystanders pulled a Sterling Heights woman from her car Monday after seeing her suffer seizures. They carried her into a nearby business. She was unconscious when firefighters arrived and placed her in an emergency vehicle.

Her name was not released.

Speaking live on WWJ Newsradio 950 Tuesday morning, Warren Mayor Jim Fouts said the woman died Monday evening amid record-breaking rainfall.

WWJ and CBSDetroit.com had reported that the woman was dead based on the false information.

"It probably was storm related," Fouts said. "They found her trapped in her car with three-and-a-half feet of water, so that obviously played a role."

It was later determined that the woman had "died of a seizure" in her car, according to a city of Warren news release.
